Gold is the most popular of all the precious metals when it comes to investing and for good reason. Investing in gold is a safe way of ensuring that one does not lose their money in the event of a crisis of economic, social, political or currency status. The Gold Trade has something solid and substantial with which to back up an investment.

It is more complicated to invest directly in commodities like gold bullion than it is to invest in stocks and bonds because of the physical aspect to it, but for many who invest in gold, the fact that it cannot be handled easily through paperwork is a bonus. For anyone desiring to invest in gold, there are options like purchasing the physical gold in the form of coins or other commodities, buying Exchange Traded Funds, which replicate the gold's price or getting into the commodities market and trade futures and options in gold.

Comex and Tocom are the two main companies that handle the gold trade. Comex is located in New York and Tocom is in Tokyo. Both of these companies are general purpose commodity exchange organizations. They deal heavily in future exchange contracts.

There are different ways to store gold at the bank if one has invested in it. In a bank, if the gold is marked as allocated it is stored under the name of the investor, and has not become the property or the liability of the banking institution. Instead, it remains the property of the purchaser and is stored as such. One should note, however, that because the gold does not become the property of the bank, in the rare event of a theft of the gold from the bank, it is a personal loss, and the bank is not liable for it.

Unallocated gold storage at a bank means that the bank is allowed to use that gold to make a profit. They are liable for the gold and therefore may invest it at their will. The gold may not be physically stored at that bank. Unallocated gold is marketed rather aggressively because it allow the banks to invest it and use it toward making a profit for the bank.

Gold can be purchased in many ways. There is gold jewelry that is easy to purchase and a person can enjoy wearing it while they own it. There is also gold bullion and small bars which are classified as either numismatic coins which have a collectible value, or bullion coins which rather accurately reflect the market price of gold. These two options provide a rather easy way to buy and sell gold as they are more readily available and the coins have the guarantee which comes with being endorsed by the government mint, but one has to watch out for fakes, as there are some of these on the market as well. Even gold bars have been known to have been carefully drilled out and the interior gold replaced with lead, while the skin still retains the appearance of a numbered gold bar. Big bars are great for those who can afford them, but the average person cannot. Gold is also traded over the counter, or as mining shares, online as e-gold, or as gold futures investments.

There are many ways in which a person can invest in the gold trade and it is a great way to ensure that there is something behind the investment instead of just paper. Investing in gold requires some research, as there are such a vast array of opportunities and so many possible ways to purchase and sell it.

Status of American Silver Eagles in Question for 2010

American Silver Eagles are the official silver bullion coin of the United States. These coins have been issued since 1986 and contain one ounce of silver. Both bullion versions and collectible versions have been offered by the United States Mint. In 2009 demand for silver bullion coins resulted in the cancellation of the collectible versions of the coins. Collectors wonder if the same thing might happen for 2010.

The bullion coins are offered through a network of authorized purchasers. These bulk buyers are able to purchase the coins directly from the United States Mint and then resell them to other bullion dealers and the public. Their purchase price is based on the spot price of silver plus a fixed mark up.

The collectible version of the American Silver Eagle has been issued in two versions. The first is the proof version, which is struck multiple times from specially prepared dies. The coins display frosted raised elements over mirror like backgrounds to create a black and white cameo impact. The second collectible version is an uncirculated strike, which is produced on specially burnished blanks and contains the "W" mint mark.

Legally, the United States Mint is required to produce the bullion coins in quantities sufficient to meet full public demand. Unfortunately, there is no such legal requirement to produce the collector versions of the coins. Due to the limited number of precious metals blanks, the US Mint was forced to prioritize the production of the bullion coins.

In October 2009, they officially announced that the 2009 Proof Silver Eagle and 2009 Uncirculated Silver Eagle would not be issued. The Mint cited their legal obligation to produce bullion coins and stated that they would work with precious metals blanks suppliers to attempt to increase supply, so that more coins could be produced in 2010.

Recently, the American Silver Eagle bullion coins were suspended after the US Mint's inventory became depleted. The coins were offered a week later, but under a rationing program. This program limits the number of coins that authorized purchasers can order. Since the US Mint is not fulfilling the full public demand the status of the 2010 collectible versions is one again in question.

Gold plays an additional role, which is to serve as a store of purchasing power. It can also be used in productive processes but the bulk of gold demand comes from its use as a reserve.

The major exchange for gold although located in London is traded in us dollars with transactions taking place 24 hours a day over different time zones.

The price of gold is an important driver of the forex market. Known to be neutral as it is not tied to any one country like a currency is the price of gold fluctuates for various independent factors which makes it good for trading along with currencies.

Given its use as a reserve, the price of gold is closely related to the behavior of other investment alternatives, such as currencies, bonds and equities. The gold price tends to rise when in the midst of monetary instability and lower capital markets. Events such as wars and natural disasters also affect the price.

The real price of gold adjusted today for inflation is much lower than it was in the 1980's. Although the equity markets have been highly unstable in recent years gold has been rising the whole time regardless of bull or bear equity moves.

In a strong upward trend since April of 2003 when gold was trading at $330 an ounce it is now as recently as December 2009 gold trading at $1,150 which is more than three fold.

Gold is bought and sold by many traders all over the world in the currency market largely as a speculative play as traders try t profit from small and large price movements. Since gold is used largely as a reserve the price is subject to many factors which cause the price to fluctuate.

When investing over short time frames you are able to earn large amounts of money however at the same time it can be very risky. You have to weight your investments and risk carefully.

Those new to investing or collecting may be confused by all the different gold coins available to build a collection. From the Canadian Gold Maple to the other stunning selections of coins that are available for purchase today, gold products and gold coins have always been extremely popular with collectors from the very beginning.

While investors tend to focus on the coins monetary value, the coin's designs and images are totally breathtaking and well worth checking out. Augustus Saint-Gaudens' gorgeous depiction of Lady Liberty, with the Capitol building featured in the background, is what you see on the front of the coin. There is a rendition on the back of the coin of a soaring Eagle above the nest showing the standard phrases "E. Pluibus Unum" and "In God We Trust" inscribed below. Also inscribed there is the symbolic monetary value as well as it's weight in gold.

These golden Eagle coins make a great starting point for investors beginning their collections because there are a variety of sizes made. They range in size between 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce denominations. Though gold prices can fluctuate every day the American Eagle coin will generally sell at a small premium above the daily price. If gold is listed at $950 you will likely see the 1oz coin selling for $1,000. Recently, there was a coin listed as a'97 1/10oz gold coin which was bid up to at least $118.00 on a popular internet auction site. Obviously, that price is a premium above the $90+ standard assessed value.

In the coin collecting field, one cannot really say that any gold coin is just any old gold coin. Familiar brands do have collection value and they matter. Collectors know that golden Eagle coins are a quality produce that make a good investment.

When you want to find the best products that are the most likely to be authentic gold coins, you should check out the larger firms that have been around for awhile. Grading services such as NGC can verify that your coins are legitimate. Their graders examine the validity of a Gold Eagle coin, and help you to determine whether or not they would be at home in your collection.

The American Eagle coin, with its U.S. government endorsement, as well as it sheer beauty and majesty, definitely has a place in any coin investor's collection. There are also silver and platinum Eagle coins, if you prefer to add some diversity to your portfolio.

So you can buy gold coins anytime you want, without worrying about the costs or the ever-changing market. The services are available in USA and customers need to simply give them a call to get their own price quotes. The transactions are pretty fast and the delivery services are quite decent too.

You can even go to their website and provide your details like name, email id and phone number, specify the time when it would be more comfortable for you to talk to them and simply wait for their response. They will call you and solve all your doubts.

Though there are many choices available, the most famous ones are the American eagle bullion coins. Having a high return value, they are considered to be a good option for investing. They are imprinted with their gold content and legal tender "face" value. Shipping and handling charges are applicable.

They come in four sizes. Having been minted at West Point, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they are highly symbolic of their times. They contain 91.6% gold and 8.4% copper-silver alloy deposits. This also makes them pretty hard and thus protects from scratching and marring. So this means the resale value will obviously be high.

One side of the coin bears the work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens and the other has the artist Miley Busiek's designs on it. You can have a look at all the available coins by going to their website. You can then bid for them and even know how many bidders are present for your choice of coin. The highest bidder is then given the coveted coin. So call them to get an exclusive coin according to your budget and choice. The company is available from 8am to 8pm every single day of the week at 310-471-2027.

Why Is Gold So High Right Now?

What causes the surging gold prices we see? How can some commodities soar to staggeringly high prices when the fundamentals are in the negative? This year gold reached $1007 an ounce, the highest price of gold since March of 2008. This means gold has risen 12% since April.

How has this happened? It certainly hasn't been the fundamentals, which is what you would think would cause it. The demand for gold jewelry has dropped 22% since 2008 according to the World Gold Council, and the use of gold has dropped 21% in industrial processes. The only part of the gold market that has flourished was the speculation, which saw an increase of 46% earlier in the year.

Many people are attracted to this metal because it is considered to be a good hedge against inflation. However, the Labor Department listed statistics showing that the consumer price index actually fell 2.1% over the course of the year for gold. That is not inflation that is deflation. So what is this gold hedging against?

Because the Federal balance sheet is getting larger, the currency it is based on is losing it's value. Deflation will only cause our currency to further lose it's value, and inflation is not a pleasant option; it appears that either way things go, gold will benefit.

Another factor in support of gold is how low the current US interest rates are. The method by which banks charge other banks for loans, known as the London interbank dollar rate, has fallen 4.8% since October of last year to an unprecedented 0.314%. Because you do not earn interest by having gold, you have something known as an opportunity cost which you do not have with any other form of investment, such as bonds. However, given the current value of the dollar, the opportunity cost of having gold as opposed to bonds is insignificant.

So, it seems pretty apparent that financial theory is the main cause of the increase in gold costs, and the basics really don't have anything to do with it. Gold prices are currently immense, but there's no way to know what's going to occur in the future.

Gold is real money, real wealth. No other form of currency has endured the test of time as it has. For thousands of years it has been relied upon as a measure of wealth, and for good reason too.

Currencies worldwide consistently go down in value. Some may become stronger against other currencies, but the overall trend is that they decrease in value. Your money, whether it be in your pocket or in a bank, buys you less and less each year. Gold, on the other hand, has been following an opposite trend - an amount of gold bought years ago will now buy you a whole lot more than it would have done back then.

Gold only cost $34 per ounce back in'70 and now, in 2009, it has hit a record price of $1150 per ounce. Gold investors have made huge profits over these past few years - just last year gold could be purchased at $800. That's a huge 30% increase in just 1 year alone. As for the future, Citigroup, USB and other big investment firms have predicted gold prices to hit over $2000 an ounce in the very near future.

The best way to invest in gold is to buy actual physical gold you can see touch and smell, which is why everybody lately has been investing in gold coins. Buying gold bars is another option, but this is beyond a lot of people due to the huge upfront cost needed. With gold coins though, they come in smaller, more affordable options, meaning that they are accessible to even small or first time investors. You can also divide up your investment and sell any amount off while leaving the balance untouched.

You can purchase gold coins through either a specialist local coin store, or an online gold coin specialist. There are plenty of both around, and you can find them through a few simple Google searches. Always seek reviews and testimonials before making any purchases though, and ask for certification that proves that what you are buying is real gold. Don't be afraid about asking a lot of questions; it is only natural and reputable sellers should always be more than willing to answer them for you.

I'll leave you with this final point: A report performed by Collector's Universe showed that one thousand dollars invested in rare gold coins in'70 is now worth $57,977.00. Sounds good, right?

Something that has been widely reported on lately in the stock trading world is the fact that the gold price going is rising. This has opened up a whole new reason for people to invest money, but of course before you do so you will want to know why this inflation has taken place.

One indication of the rising is that the advertisements from pawnbrokers, online sales and media advertising buying gold from people who no longer need it, or want cold hard cash for the exchange fast are becoming more popular, and you cannot turn anywhere without seeing someone offering you much needed money.

With the economic crisis that has been so widely reported over the globe, Obama has given support to those who need it in order to ease the effects this has caused on the Country. This has meant that the dollar is worth less now than it once was. People are now looking for another venture that they can invest in so that they are able to make a profit and gold the most popular choice.

It is the season that both Christmas and Diwalli is upon us, so people want to buy gifts to show that they care. This opens the market to people who are wishing to sell, and with the prices hitting high they are sure to be able to benefit from the people who wish to make such purchases.

It is a known fact that when gold prices increase it is a sign that many are suffering economic crisis, however there is always a balance that when someone gets richer another person will get poorer and many people will want in on the gain rather than the loss which is why they want to buy and sell gold. This means that as gold becomes more in demand the prices will rise and this is exactly what has happened.

You can now see the benefit to investing in something that has had high standing in many cultures for so many years, and continues to be such a precious metal no matter the financial problems in the world.
